Morty's been busy this day.
Who Died Today
Every calendar date is somebody's last one. Here are the best-known names whose final entry in the ledger was written on today's date — in some year or other. Morty rebuilds this list every morning.
On this date, we lost…

How Morty picks the names
💀 The method, such as it is
Hundreds of people with Wikipedia articles died on today's date across recorded history. Most of them you have never heard of, and that is no reflection on them — it's a reflection on how few names any of us carry around.
So the list is ranked by how many language editions of Wikipedia bothered to write about the person. Someone with an article in ninety languages is known on every continent. Someone with three is known to specialists. It's a crude measure of fame, but it's an honest one, and it doesn't care what happens to be trending this week.
🔮 Myth vs. Morty
Myth: "Some dates are unlucky." They aren't. Roughly 170,000 people die every day, spread more or less evenly across the calendar. If today looks crowded with famous names, that's because every day is crowded with famous names once you've had a few thousand years to fill the diary.
Morty has worked every date on the calendar. He reports no favourites and no days off.
A note on tone: the site is a joke; the people on this list are not. You'll find the year they died and what they were known for, and nothing about how it happened — that's not what this page is for. Every entry links back to Wikipedia if you want the full story.
